Britain announced on Wednesday that it had imposed a new round of sanctions “against the elites of the Russian military and the Kremlin,” including six organizations providing military equipment, including drones, for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Reuters reported.

The sanctions also apply to eight individuals and a legal entity linked to a financial network that helps “maintain wealth and power among Kremlin elites,” the British government said in a statement in the context of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi’s visit to Great Britain.

“Ukraine demonstrated to Putin that it will not be destroyed by his tyrannical invasion. He responded with indiscriminate bombing of civilian areas and critical national infrastructure on the territory of Ukraine, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, James Cleverley, emphasized.

“We cannot allow him (Putin) to succeed. We need to increase our support” to Ukraine, he added.

Relations between Russia and the West, following the start of the Russian offensive in Ukraine at the end of February 2022, are experiencing an unprecedented crisis since the end of the Cold War.

Ukraine received the support of Western capitals, in particular London, in the form of diplomatic support and arms supplies, and tough international sanctions were imposed against Russia.
