Martial law in Ukraine, introduced due to the Russian invasion, was extended by the Kyiv parliament for another 90 days on Tuesday, the DPA and Agerpres agencies report.

According to Ukrainian mass media, on Tuesday, 348 deputies voted for the fifth extension, which is much more than the required 226 votes.

At the same time, general mobilization was continued. This means that Ukrainian men between the ages of 18 and 60 who are subject to military service will still, with some exceptions, be prohibited from leaving the country.

The resolution is temporarily valid until May 20.

As mass casualties are reported, more and more videos are appearing showing summonses being handed out to passers-by in Ukrainian cities.

Kyiv has been fighting the Russian invasion for almost a year. Russia controls almost 20 percent of the territory of Ukraine, including the Crimean peninsula, which was annexed in 2014.

The situation at the front

Despite reports of extremely bloody battles and mass casualties, the leadership of the Russian army expressed satisfaction with the situation at the front in eastern Ukraine.

“Currently, the fighting in the areas of Vugledar and Artemivsk (the Russian name is Bakhmut) is progressing successfully,” Russian Defense Minister Serhii Shoigu said on Tuesday.

During the day, the Ukrainian side reported fierce fighting near the city of Bakhmut, Donetsk region. The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, recently stated once again that Ukrainian troops are resisting.

According to British intelligence, the Russians are not really advancing. In Bakhmut – a city that once had a population of more than 70,000 – only a few thousand people remain.
