A new video has spread on Russian social networks, in which a retired woman speaks out against the promised supply of Leopard tanks to Ukraine by the West.

“Putin’s gas-bellied Brigades reacted to Germany’s decision to supply Ukraine with Leopard tanks,” says BBC journalist Francis Scarr sarcastically, explaining that the picture of a hand “pushing from behind” on a photo of a Leopard tank has “hand” written on it. Washington”.

“Putin’s Brigades” is a reference to groups of retired nationalists in Russia who unconditionally support the leader in the Kremlin, periodically filming such “patriotic” videos.

In another video last October, a group of Russian pensioners accused US President Joe Biden of preparing to use tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine.

This footage was taken just as Russia accused Ukraine of preparing to detonate a “dirty bomb” on its territory in order to blame it on Moscow.

“Listen, we are warning you, the whole world will hear, we already know that you are planning something. It won’t work,” the retired woman speaking on the recording tells the American president

It is not clear to what extent these groups of pensioners are coordinated by the official Kremlin propaganda apparatus or whether they are rather supported by local branches of the United Russia party. But it is also possible that they act independently.

Leopard tanks for Ukraine

On January 25, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz officially announced that his government had approved the shipment of a company of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. Scholz also said that Berlin had also authorized the transfer for countries that want to supply Kyiv with these German-made tanks.

Several European countries immediately announced their intention to do so, but on February 5, Canada became the first country to send a Leopard 2 tank to Kyiv.

“Battle tanks are going to help Ukraine. Canada’s first Leopard 2 tank is on its way. Canada’s support for Ukraine is unwavering,” Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand wrote on Twitter on Saturday, sharing a video of a German-made tank being loaded onto a plane.

Earlier last week, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that his country would receive 120 to 140 Western tanks as part of the “first wave” of supplies from a coalition of 12 countries.

Among them, however, are not only German-made Leopard 2 tanks, but also Challenger 2 tanks from the reserves of Great Britain and Abrams models of the American army.

Last Friday, the German government announced that it had also approved the export of Leopard 1 main battle tanks, the predecessor of the Leopard 2, to Ukraine.
