An 18-month-old girl was pulled alive from the rubble of a house in the northwestern Syrian city of Azaz this morning, but several members of her family died because of it. about a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8, which also caused damage to neighboring Turkey.

Minutes after the rescuer pulled the baby out of the rubble, holding her tenderly in his arms, the girl’s uncle told a Reuters reporter that Raghdad Ismail’s two brothers and her mother, who was pregnant, had been killed.

Sitting on cushions near a wood-burning stove, wrapped in a blanket, a little girl tried to eat a piece of bread while Abu Hussam told Reuters about the family drama. “The father probably got a fracture of the spine, everything is fine with the little daughter. His pregnant wife, five-year-old daughter and four-year-old son died,” said the uncle of little Raghdad.

According to him, a mother and her three children were also rescued from the ruins of the same building.

Ismail’s family was forced to leave their home in the city of Morek due to the decade-long civil war in Syria. He has taken refuge in Azaz, a city near the Turkish border that is under the control of anti-regime forces.
