Earthquake: oil exports from northern Iraq suspended – refineries close

Iraqi Kurdistan authorities announced today that they are suspending oil exports through Turkey for “security” reasons following a deadly earthquake that hit the country and caused serious property damage.

“Due to the earthquake that occurred in Turkey and Syria, and in order to ensure the safety of oil exports and prevent any adverse incidents, oil exports through the pipeline connecting Kurdistan Province with Turkey have been suspended,” said the Ministry of Natural Resources of this region, located in said in a statement in northern Iraq.

Meanwhile, an oil refinery in the Syrian city of Bania will suspend operations for 48 hours after the earthquake, the Syrian news agency SANA reported, citing a statement from the oil ministry.
