Ukraine’s current Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, who is under pressure after a corruption scandal was exposed in his ministry, will take another government post, the head of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s party told parliament tonight.
Kirill Budanov, the current head of the Military Intelligence Service (GUR), will become the new Minister of Defense.
“The war dictates the movement of personnel,” David Arakhamia explained in a Telegram message. “Times and circumstances require strengthening and reconstruction. This is happening now and will happen in the future. […] The enemy is preparing to attack. We are preparing to defend ourselves and take back what is ours,” he added.
Arakhamia did not specify when Reznikov would leave the ministry or what position he would take.
Earlier in his daily address, President Zelensky reiterated that the situation in the Donetsk region, where heavy fighting is taking place, is “very complicated,” but did not mention the removal of the minister.
