
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is leaving for Baghdad today, where the main topics on the agenda are the strengthening of bilateral relations and energy cooperation, an Iraqi Foreign Ministry spokesman said in a statement.
Lavrov is leading a diplomatic delegation that includes representatives of oil and gas companies, and on Monday he will meet with his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein.
The visit will be dedicated to “strategic relationship with Russia, while investment opportunities will be encouraged, with a focus on the energy sector“.
The Russian foreign minister will also meet tomorrow with senior Iraqi officials, including Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani, President Abdul Latif Rashid and the speaker of the Iraqi parliament.
