Two Russian rockets hit the center of Kharkov in northeastern Ukraine and one hit a residential building, local officials said today.
“A residential building in the city center was damaged. A fire broke out. So far, it is known that there are three victims: a 54-year-old woman and two men aged 51 and 55,” Governor of the Kharkiv region Oleg Sinekhubov wrote in the Telegram messenger.
He added that the woman was being treated for shrapnel wounds. Reuters was unable to independently confirm this information.
Meanwhile, the governor of the Luhansk region, Sergei Gaidai, said today that Ukrainian forces control the village of Belogorovka, adding that the situation there is tense but under control.
“In the Russian Federation, information is being spread about the alleged capture of Belgorovka and the removal of our people from there,” Gaidai said on Ukrainian television.
“Our troops remain in their positions, no one has occupied Belogorovka, no one has entered there, there is no enemy there,” he added.
Some Moscow-appointed officials and pro-Russian military bloggers have recently said that the Russians are advancing towards Bialogorivka, the last part of the Lugansk region controlled by Ukrainian forces.
“The situation at the front is tense, but Ukrainian forces control it,” Gaidai said.
“The number of Russian attacks has increased, but they were all repelled by our troops, who remain in their positions,” he added, while Reuters again notes that it cannot confirm the information from an independent source.
In addition, the head of the Russian private police, Vagner, said today that heavy fighting continues in the northern part of the city of Bakhmut, which has been the focus of Russian forces for several weeks now.
Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder and head of Wagner, said his soldiers are “fighting for every street, every house, every staircase” against Ukrainian forces that do not retreat.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said yesterday, Saturday, that the situation on the front line in eastern Ukraine is becoming more difficult, and Russia is throwing more and more troops into battle.
