OUR Canada called her ambassador China after a spy balloon was seen flying at high altitude in North American airspace, according to Ottawa, a spokesman for Canada’s Foreign Office said.
“We will continue to vigorously communicate our position to Chinese officials through multiple channels,” the emailed statement said.
Blinken postpones visit to China
It is also noted that, according to the Wall Street Journal, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken postponed his visit to China “indefinitely” after the balloon was detected in US airspace.
Blinken did not want the incident to dominate the agenda of his meetings with Chinese officials, ABC News reported, citing an unnamed US official.
The balloon, described by US officials as a “reconnaissance balloon,” circled the US mainland through Montana after having previously crossed airspace over Alaska’s Aleutian Islands and Canada.
