Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki believes that mistrust is growing in Germany because of the Berlin government’s policy towards Ukraine, and sharply attacks Chancellor Olaf Scholz, whom he accuses of “only giving oxygen to Putin”, reports DPA.
- “I would say that a year ago, many countries trusted Germany a lot.
- Now this pendulum has swung in the direction of distrust. Especially in the family of countries of Central and Eastern Europe, which are also members of the European Union,” Moravetskyi said in an interview with the German newspaper Bild.
“Germany is trying to be half-pregnant”
He says Germany could provide more support to Ukraine and accuses German Chancellor Olaf Scholz of continuing to misjudge Russian President Vladimir Putin.
- “We see that Germany is trying to be half-pregnant, think a little differently and support Ukraine.
- But at the same time, they – I mean the government and the chancellor in particular – still believe that everything should be done with Russia as it was. I don’t think that will ever be possible with this quasi-totalitarian regime,” Moravetskyi said.
The Prime Minister of Poland also expressed skepticism about the German Chancellor’s telephone conversations with the head of the Kremlin.
- “I think something is wrong. It only gives Putin oxygen and achieves nothing.
- With such conversations, Putin actually achieves his goals, because he shows them to his people and the rest of the world: “Look, I’m in great demand, everyone wants to talk to me, everything depends on me,” – the Polish Prime Minister. also stated Agerpres, which quotes DPA.
In the discussion about the supply of Western fighter jets to Ukraine, Moravetskyi says that he is open to sending F16s: “If there was a decision at the NATO level, I would be in favor of sending these planes.”
