Ukrainian forces destroyed the Tor M2DT air defense system brought by the Russians to Ukraine from the Arctic and shown on the official Russian military television.

According to the Ukrainians, the Tor system was detected by a drone, which transmitted its coordinates to the 406th Artillery Brigade, which destroyed it with two well-aimed strikes.

In the first part of the video, you can see part of the plot of the “Zvezda” TV channel, and then the destruction by two strikes on the front by Ukrainian troops.

“The system receives a direct hit and catches fire. The occupiers try to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, the fire extinguisher falls, the occupier flees, then the Ukrainian artillery fires again and the ammunition detonates,” the Armed Forces of Ukraine said on their Telegram channel.

In the post, the Ukrainians note that the system was shown on Huylo TV, a derogatory term for Russians.

The administrators of the Ukraine Weapons Tracker page note that this is the first confirmed destruction of the 9A331MDT system – a version of the Tor-M2DT systems intended for operation in arctic zones. Moreover, the Ukrainians probably struck with M982 Excalibur guided missiles, known for their devastating accuracy.

Russian air system destroyed by Western-made ammunition

Canada reported on the provision of Excalibur projectiles to Ukraine in April of last year, and the American press wrote about the intentions of the Washington administration to supply such ammunition to the Ukrainian Armed Forces in July-August.

The video, which shows these shells in the equipment of the Ukrainian military, appeared only in September, but it showed only how the Kyiv gunners handled the ammunition and fired the shell, not a direct hit on Russian forces.

Military analyst and independent researcher Chris Owen noted at the time that “[obuzele] The Excalibur is extremely accurate, with a CEP of only 5 meters”, and during testing, an error of only 1.6 meters was achieved.

According to him, this capability effectively turns 155 mm howitzers into giant “sniper rifles” that can engage individual targets at a distance of tens of kilometers.

Last month, the Swedish government announced that it would send more Archer artillery systems capable of firing Excalibur ammunition to Ukraine.

Sweden has 48 Archer systems, self-propelled howitzers mounted on Bofors BAE vehicles, but has not said exactly how many it will send to Kyiv.
