“When it comes to the supply of weapons (to Ukraine), we do not rank countries by geography. We say that all countries supplying weapons should understand that we will consider (these weapons) as legitimate targets for the Russian armed forces,” said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, referring to the possibility of supplying weapons to Israel.

Since the start of the Russian offensive in Ukraine in February last year, Israel has attempted to remain neutral in the conflict, for example by not supplying weapons to Kyiv, despite repeated requests from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Israel also claimed a privileged relationship with Moscow because the Jewish state has over a million citizens from the former Soviet Union and Russia has troops in Syria, Israel’s neighbor.

However, on Wednesday Netanyahu said his country was considering military assistance to Ukraine, while offering a mediating role in the conflict in Ukraine.

“Any attempt – achieved or not achieved, but announced – to supply additional weapons, new or otherwise, leads or will lead to an escalation of this crisis. The whole world should realize this, ”Zakharova emphasized.

In recent days, several Western countries have announced their intention to quickly supply heavy tanks to Ukraine, for example, the UK intends to deliver Challenger tanks at the end of March, and Germany intends to ship its first Leopard 2 at the end of March with the authorities in April.

However, Ukraine still asks the West for fighter jets and heavy artillery.
