Head of the Intelligence Service of the Ukrainian Army, Kirill Budanovwho predicted a Russian invasion in time to organize Ukrainian defense in 2022, says in an interview with the American Washington Post newspaper that Crimea Will be released.
The Crimean peninsula was occupied and annexed by Russia 2014but Kyiv’s declared goal of the war, which began last February, is the liberation of all Ukrainian territory seized by force from Russia, including Crimea, a goal that many Westerners find almost impossible to achieve.
However, the Ukrainian general, who briefed the political leadership a few months ago about an impending Russian attack, now believes Russia will focus this year on seizing more territory in the eastern regions of Donetsk and Lukansk.
According to him, a new attack by his forces stationed north of Ukraine, in Belarus, is unlikely, but only an attempt to divert and divide the Kyiv troops.
He also stated that “we must do everything to ensure that Crimea returns home by the summer.”
When asked if he believes that the arrival of Ukrainian troops in Crimea could make the Russian president Vladimir Putin use nuclear weapons, General Budanov, 37, said: “That’s not true. And Crimea will return to us. I will also tell you the following: It all started in Crimea in 2014 and it will all end there“.
