British firefighters are demanding a pay rise that will exceed the 5% that employers have so far offered them.
If they don’t make it safe, they will announce a nationwide strike: the first they held with a demand for higher wages since 2003 (there were others in the meantime, in 2013 and 2015, but already on pension issues).
Members of the firemen’s trade union (Union of Fire Brigade – FBU) voted in favor of the strike proposal with an 88% percentage, and it is now expected that everything will be decided by new rounds of negotiations that will follow in the next few days.
Firefighters themselves complain that their salaries have indeed decreased by 12% compared to 2010.
It is expected that their strike will take place from 9 February.
A new meeting is scheduled for February 8, and it will depend on its results whether it will eventually be possible to reach an agreement on the announced increases or not.
