Head of American Diplomacy Anthony Blinken arrived in Egypt today for a blitz tour of the Middle East amid an upsurge in Israeli-Palestinian violence with little hope of using the influence of the United States to try to ease tensions.
His tour, which will take him to Jerusalem and Ramallah on the Monday and Tuesday after his visit to Cairo, has been planned for some time, but is coming as the security situation suddenly deteriorated in just a few days.

Seven people were killed in a Palestinian attack near a synagogue in East Jerusalem on Friday, and the Israeli military attacked the Gaza Strip on the same day in response to rocket fire from Palestinian territory.
The events follow Thursday’s Israeli raid on Jenin in the occupied West Bank, the deadliest in years, in which 9 Palestinians were killed.
In addition, a father and son were injured yesterday, Saturday, as a result of shelling of a 13-year-old boy in a new Palestinian attack that took place in East Jerusalem.
