Seven people were killed and 10 more were injured as a result of shelling of a synagogue on its outskirts. JerusalemThis is reported by the Israeli Foreign Ministry.
According to the ambulance service, the death toll is 5 people. Among the victims was a 70-year-old woman.
Israeli police reported a “terror attack” at the Neve Yaakov synagogue, which Israelis consider to be a neighborhood of Jerusalem. The area is considered by the Palestinians and much of the international community to be the occupied territory of East Jerusalem, which was illegally annexed by Israel after the 1967 war.
This attack comes one day after the Israeli army’s deadly operation in Jenin in the West Bank and on the day of International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Prayers for the beginning of Saturday (Shabbat) began in the synagogue, when around 20:30 a gunman opened fire.
According to police, the attacker was “neutralized”. It is not specified whether this person is also included in the number of seven dead.

In Gaza, Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem told Reuters: “This operation is a response to the crime committed by the occupier in Jenin and a natural reaction to his criminal actions.” However, he evaded responsibility for the attack.
The Palestinian Islamic Jihad also praised the attack but did not claim responsibility.
