The Israeli military announced that it had carried out airstrikes early Friday morning in the Gaza Strip in response to the launch of two rockets from the Palestinian enclave that were intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome anti-aircraft system.
According to them, the Israeli armed forces “are striking in the Gaza Strip.”
Security sources in the Gaza Strip, a densely populated enclave run by the Islamist group Hamas, told AFP that 15 strikes were carried out with no casualties reported at this stage.
Earlier, the Israeli military said that two rockets fired from the Gaza Strip were intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system.
The launches followed his raid on the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank, which killed at least nine people, according to Palestinian sources. It was one of the deadliest Israeli military operations in the West Bank in recent years. The death toll from Israeli operations among Palestinians, members of armed organizations and civilians reached at least 29 in January.
Tensions in the West Bank have escalated since the spring of 2022, when, following a series of anti-Israel attacks, the Israeli military stepped up its operations. In total, in 2022, according to AFP estimates, more than 200 Palestinians were killed.
Most of the operations were carried out in Jenin and Nablus, strongholds of the Palestinian armed groups.
