OUR Matthias Warnic -German businessman friendly to Putin-, CEO of a gas pipeline management company Nord Stream 2which no longer exists, in an interview in German Die Zeit talks about his meetings with the President of Russia in Moscow after the start of the war in Ukraine.

According to Varnich, in meetings with Putin, he tried to convince the Russian president put an end to the war against Ukraine. He also asked Putin what the real goals of the so-calledspecial military operation“.

“You talk about it Donetsk and Luganskand while your troops want to understand it Kyiv. How does this happen? You want her Odessa or Kharkov or all Ukraine? Or something else? He asked this question, Varnich claims, to Putin, to which the Russian president replied: “It’s a state secret”.

Varnich claims that in another conversation he told Putin that he could not win the war.

According to what Warnich said, who in May, under pressure from public opinion, together with the former German chancellor Gerhard Schroederresigned from the Board of Directors (Russian Oil Company) Rosneftrejected Putin’s offer to leave and stay in Moscow.

Kremlin representative, Dmitry Peskovconfirmed that the Russian president was meeting with Varnich, but did not elaborate.

Matthias Varnich, known in Germany as Putin’s friend, met Putin in the 1980s when the future Russian president was working in Dresden as a KGB agent.
