A flurry of Russian missiles hit Ukrainian cities on Thursday morning, with two powerful explosions rocking Kyiv and killing at least one resident of the capital.
Ukrainian authorities say Russian troops fired more than 30 rockets, adding that they shot down a large number. An air raid alarm went off, and the townspeople rushed to the shelters.
The mayor of Kyiv urged residents to stay where they were after a Russian rocket thundered over the Ukrainian capital. “Explosion in Kyiv! Stay in shelters,” Vitali Klitschko wrote on Telegram before reporting the death of a 55-year-old man and the injury of two other citizens.
The fatal blow occurred in an area where there are no residential buildings, only business structures, in the south of the capital.

At least one explosion in Kyiv confirms what Reuters journalists heard too.
Presumably, the strikes were carried out by combat aircraft of the Russian Air Force. Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ikhnat said six Tu-95 fighter jets took off from the Murmansk Arctic region in northern Russia and fired long-range missiles.
The missile attack is associated with a reflex reaction of the Russians to the announcement of the delivery of advanced Western tanks to Kyiv.
Ukrainian air defenses shot down more than 15 Russian missiles fired at the capital during Thursday’s morning rush hour, local authorities said.
In addition, the Ukrainian military said Ukrainian forces had destroyed 24 drones, including 15 over Kyiv, launched by Russia in attacks overnight.
At the same time, in Odessa, local officials said two critical energy infrastructures in the region had been hit.
Also, the alarm was sounded in Dnepropetrovsk, air strikes were also reported in Vinnitsa. CNN reports that at least one energy company has gone out of business.
