Mike Pompeo — former U.S. Secretary of State under Donald Trump, former director of the CIA, and now a possible Republican presidential nominee ahead of the 2024 election — wrote a book called Never Back Down: Fighting for the America I Love. ‘, which was released yesterday in the US.
In nearly 470 pages of the book, Pompeo recalls, shakes up, and reveals previously unknown backstories of his tenure at the helm of the State Department from 2018-2020.
Specifically, according to what Pompeo claims in his new book:
- Former U.S. Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley “colluded” with Trump’s daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner to win the vice presidency on Trump’s side.
- Trump himself had a “crazy idea” that did not materialize, to give Pompeo the positions of Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense at the same time.
- Trump once called former White House security adviser John Bolton a “loser bastard.”
- Pakistan and India were on the brink of a nuclear conflict at some point in 2019.
- Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who was killed in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in 2018, was not really a “journalist” but an “activist who supported a group losing the race for the throne” inside Saudi Arabia and ended up… lost himself in self-exile.
Mike Pompeo’s references to the Khashoggi case have already drawn a strong reaction from the Saudi Arabian widow, as well as the Washington Post, for which Khashoggi worked.
In a public statement, Washington Post publisher and CEO Fred Ryan accused Pompeo of spreading “vile lies” about Khashoggi to discredit him.

However, there are many analysts who argue that Pompeo’s new book is essentially written with an eye on the 2024 presidential election, that is, in order to pave the way for the former US foreign secretary’s candidacy for the presidency.
However, it is worth noting that Pompeo does not contain particularly strong characteristics of Donald Trump himself in his book.
