In particular, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, which has taken on this “symbolic” task since 1947, revealed today at a press conference organized by it in Washington a new “time”, which is shown by a clock that measures how close humanity is to a global catastrophe. .

The hands have moved forward by 10 seconds, and now there are only 90 seconds left before midnight, the hour everyone wishes it never struck.

As of 2020, the clock showed 100 seconds to midnight. The figures are now even further ahead, “closer to midnight than ever before,” the scientists note, citing “increasing risks associated with the war in Ukraine, but not only.”

After World War II, the clock showed 7 minutes to midnight. In 1992, with the end of the Cold War, the hands of the clock dropped to 17 minutes to midnight. In 1953, 2018 and 2019 they reached 2 minutes before midnight.

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists was founded in 1945 by Albert Einstein and other scientists working on the Manhattan Project to build the first atomic bomb. Every year these specialists “move” the hands of the clock, studying the current situation in the world.
