According to Italian media reports, the Brussels prosecutor’s office is going to withdraw the request for the extradition of his daughter and wife Antonio Panzeri from Italy to Belgium.
The “change of attitude”, according to defenders Silvia Panzeri and Maria Dolores Colleoni, “follows from the official document that was circulated in the previous hours”, according to La Stampa newspaper.
Silvia Panzeri’s lawyers announced this morning that they have filed an appeal with the Italian Supreme Court against the decision of the Court of Appeal of Brescia to extradite their client to Belgium. The corresponding verdict on the extradition of Pancheri’s daughter and wife is expected on January 31. However, if the change in position of the Belgian prosecutors is officially confirmed, this will mean that the procedure is now meaningless.
“We will have to see if this decision includes the release of Silvia Panzeri and Maria Dolores Colleoni,” said one of the two defense lawyers for Panzeri’s relatives. Recall that two women are under house arrest in northern Italy.
According to the Italian press, this event may be related to Antonio Panzeri’s decision to cooperate with Belgian justice as “repentant”.
