President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky discussed a possible assassination attempt on the founder of the Wagner mercenary company. Evgeny Prigozhinwith Director of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) William Burns during the latter’s visit to Kyiv last week, according to the Russian news agency TASS.
Vladimir Rogov, president of the Zaporozhye Russophile movement “We are with Russia,” told the agency on Tuesday that “one of the demands heard from Zelensky was the murder of Wagner’s head.”
This request, according to him, is known to Mr. Zelensky’s entourage and a fairly large number of people who ask or demand that the Americans purge Prigozhin.
On January 20, White House National Security Council strategic communications coordinator John Kirby said that the United States had decided to recognize Wagner as an international criminal organization and would soon impose new sanctions against it.
Earlier, the US authorities included Wagner and Prigozhin himself in various sanctions lists, and the head of the mercenary company, accused of war crimes, was approved by the US authorities.
On Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Washington’s decision to recognize Wagner as a criminal organization is unlikely to affect the company itself or Russia.
