Italy’s civil protection is on high alert in nine regions of the country due to bad weather.
The areas most affected by extreme weather are around Naples, Ancona, Bari and Bologna.
According to weather forecasts, low temperatures, snow and rain will continue in most parts of the country until the end of the week.
In the Marche region, which was hit by deadly floods last September, authorities are constantly monitoring river levels, and on the small island of Ischia, which was hit by deadly landslides last November, 400 people fled their homes as a precaution.
In L’Aquila, in central Italy, schools remained closed today and the mayor asked citizens to severely limit the use of their cars. Since yesterday, it has also been snowing in Sicily, specifically in Syracuse, where the highest temperatures in all of Europe were recorded in 2022.
