The US Department of Justice on Friday uncovered six more classified documents during a search of the Biden family’s home in Wilmington, Delaware, one of the president’s lawyers said today.
Some of the classified documents date back to Biden’s tenure in the US Senate, where he represented Delaware from 1973 to 2009, according to his lawyer, Bob Bauer. Bauer said other documents date back to his time as vice president in the Obama administration, from 2009 to 2017.
The Justice Department, which conducted a more than 12-hour investigation, also received some notes that Biden personally wrote in his capacity as vice president, the attorney said.
The President of the United States facilitated a search of his home “to allow the Department of Justice to search all areas for any records made by him during his tenure as Vice President and other classified materials,” lawyer Bob Bauer said.
However, he did not say where the papers were found in the Wilmingtons’ home. Previously classified documents were found in the garage of the house and in a nearby warehouse.
President Biden and the first lady of the United States were not present at the investigation, he said.
The issue of classified documents is especially important for Joe Biden — especially at this stage, as he prepares to announce whether he intends to ultimately seek re-election in the 2024 presidential election — and for Democrats in general.
