“The freezing of RT France accounts will lead to retaliatory measures against French media in Russia if the French authorities do not stop terrorizing Russian journalists,” warned a Russian diplomatic source quoted by Russian news agencies RIA Novosti and TASS.
Yesterday, Friday, the unions of RT France condemned the freezing of the TV channel’s accounts in France.
“With this sanction, almost 100 employees and about 50 journalists are likely to be unemployed,” the unions FO (Force ouvrière) and SNJ (Syndicat des journalists) said in a statement to RT France, according to which the accounts “they have been frozen.” by decision of the (French) State.”
“On January 18, we received a notification from our bank informing us that our bank accounts were frozen at the request of the General Directorate of the Ministry of Finance,” a trade unionist told RT France today.
In response to a question from Agence France-Presse, the Ministry of Finance said that the channel’s assets were frozen due to the application of the latest European sanctions, and not on the direct initiative of the French state.
