Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the infamous Wagner Group, sent a brief letter to the White House demanding to know what crime his company was accused of.
The US has announced new sanctions against a group that is fighting on one of the toughest fronts in Ukraine.
Since yesterday, Wagner has been included in the US list of an international criminal organization.
Prigozhin shared a letter written in English and addressed to White House National Security Representative John Kirby on his Telegram channel.
“Dear Mr. Kirby, could you explain what crime Wagner committed?” He wrote.
Kirby called Wagner “a criminal organization that commits massive atrocities and violations of human rights.”
Wagner is a private military group known for its brutality and recruitment of prisoners from Russian prisons.
A dead mercenary who didn’t… died
Russian opposition media claimed the woman was falsely informed that her husband had died fighting Wagner forces in Ukraine.
The woman received her husband’s sealed coffin, a death certificate and a medal of honor, TV Dozdh reported.
She then buried her husband’s coffin before discovering that he was, in fact, alive and in Ukrainian custody.
TV Dozdh claimed to have heard many such stories and that Wagner representatives intimidated family members from checking the coffins.
Meanwhile, State Duma deputy Yevgeny Stupin said he heard from voters that as soon as their relatives signed contracts with Wagner and were sent to fight in Ukraine, they were no longer heard of.
The Institute for the Study of War think tank said it showed that Wagner “lacks the basic administrative organs to keep records of individual military personnel and communicate properly with the authorities.”
