Demonstrations held today in Stockholm vs Turkey and Sweden’s aspirations to join NATO, including the burning of a copy of the Koran, have sharply increased tensions with Turkey at a time when the Scandinavian country needs Ankara’s support to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

Under heavy security and behind metal partitions, Rasmus Paludan, the Swedish extremist leader of the far-right Stram Kurs (Hard Line) party, an anti-Islamist and opponent of immigration, allegedly burned a copy of the Koran, the journalist found.
