Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on Wednesday spoke in favor of negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin on ending the war in Ukraine, he said on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, dpa reported on Thursday.
“It is also important to maintain contact with Putin,” Sanchez said in Davos.
“I strongly support, for example, that the French government and the German government … take the initiative,” Prime Minister Sanchez told CNN.
He assessed the expediency of returning to discussions with the participation of Germany, France, Russia and Ukraine in the Normandy format, created before the war. Other EU countries will support Paris and Berlin in such an initiative, added Pedro Sánchez.
When asked if President Vladimir Putin could interpret the West’s willingness to discuss as “weakness”, the Spanish Prime Minister replied: “No, I don’t think so.”
Earlier, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain, Jose Manuel Albarez, expressed reservations about the possible supply of Leopard battle tanks to Ukraine. (Agerpress)
