The Ukrainian military will train on Leopard 2 battle tanks in Poland, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said, despite the fact that the allies have not reached an agreement on the supply of these German-made machines to Kyiv, The Guardian reports, citing news.ro.

Reznikov stated this in an interview with the Ukrainian editorial staff of the Voice of America TV channel after participating in a Friday meeting at the American Ramstein Air Base in Germany, where Ukraine’s partners discussed the future military aid they will provide to this country.

Although the most anticipated decision was to send German-made Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, the allies have not yet decided on this, given that Berlin, which must first give its consent, has so far been reluctant.

Reznikov says that training the troops to work with Leopard tanks is progress, attributing the success to Poland’s efforts.

“We’ll start with that, and then we’ll move on,” he said, as quoted by Voice of America.

Reznikov expressed hope that Germany would eventually make a favorable decision regarding the tanks.

“I take it optimistically,” said Reznikov. “Because the first step has been taken – we are starting training missions with Leopard 2,” he said.
