In recent hours, the Ukrainian army has focused its efforts on regaining control over the strategic city of Kreminna, which would give it access to the main roads leading to the industrial centers of Donbass, while Russian troops continue their offensive on the city of Bakhmut near management of the Ukrainian troops, the EFE agency reports.

The city of Kreminna was occupied by the Russian army on April 18, almost two months after the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and from there began a major offensive, as a result of which Russia took control of new territories in the east. Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine, but without being able to fully control any of them.

As reported by the American publication The New York Times and the Ukrainian Ukranian Pravda, the fighting in this city of the Luhansk region began a few days ago, while in the neighboring Donetsk region, Russian troops continue to attack the city of Bakhmut, which under the control of Ukrainian troops.

Kreminna is the gateway to two much larger neighboring cities — Severodonetsk and Lysichansk — important industrial centers that were occupied by Russian troops in the summer.

As The New York Times reports, the Russian army has strengthened defensive positions around the city of Kreminna. Heavy fighting is also taking place around the town of Svatove, which is also in Luhansk.

After retreating in recent months from much of northern Kharkiv Oblast following a Ukrainian counteroffensive and from the west bank of the Dnieper in southern Kherson Oblast, Russian forces have regrouped in eastern Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts and in what was still controlled by Kharkiv, consolidating front lines while continuing offensive attempts actions
