The war in Ukraine over the past 10 months has resulted in significant losses on both sides. According to the latest estimates of the Ukrainian armed forces, Russia has suffered significant losses in armored vehicles that are sent to the front, overcoming thresholds that could not even be imagined before the invasion.

More than 100,000 soldiers, more than 3,000 tanks and more than 6,000 armored personnel carriers – this is how much, according to the Ukrainian side’s estimates on December 26, Russia would have lost in a little more than 10 months of war.

Losses of Russia in the war before Christmas

  • 102,600 soldiers (+550 in the last day)
  • 3016 tanks (+5)
  • 6017 battle tanks (+7)
  • 1,996 artillery systems (+5)
  • 1707 drones (+1)
  • 418 rocket launcher systems
  • 283 planes
  • 267 helicopters
  • 212 anti-aircraft systems
  • 16 boats/vessels

The figures provided by Ukraine cannot be independently verified under these conditions and should be viewed with a degree of skepticism.

What losses would Ukraine suffer in a war with Russia

On the other hand, however, Russia also claims to have inflicted significant damage on the Ukrainian military, in addition to extensive destruction of infrastructure. However, Russia does not publish how many enemy soldiers it estimates it has taken out of combat so far.

According to the latest information from the Ministry of Defense of Russia, since the beginning of the “special forces operation”, the Russian troops managed to destroy:

  • 352 aircraft
  • 192 helicopters
  • 2724 drones
  • 399 anti-aircraft systems
  • 7240 tanks and battle tanks
  • 940 volley fire systems
  • 3708 artillery and mortar systems
  • 7747 special military vehicles

The data presented by Russia also cannot be independently verified.

It should be noted that Russia claims to have shot down 352 planes, which is almost twice as many planes as Ukraine had on paper at the beginning of the war.

Although the exact number of military aircraft that Ukraine counted on at the beginning of the year was not officially indicated anywhere, numerous independent sources reported that on paper Ukraine had a maximum of 165 military aircraft.

Putin, year-end interview: Russian army will destroy the Patriot system provided by the US to Ukraine

Vladimir Putin says he is “100% sure” the Russian military will destroy the Patriot air defense system the United States has announced it will supply to Ukraine. In an interview with Russian public television, an excerpt from which was made public, the Kremlin leader renewed his attacks on the West and said that Moscow’s goal in Ukraine is to “unite the Russian people.”

“Everything is based on the policy of our geopolitical adversaries, who seek to divide Russia, historical Russia,” Putin said, adding that Moscow’s “goal” is “completely different: to unite the Russian people.”
