The U.S. House of Representatives today voted in favor of a $1.66 trillion federal budget that includes a record amount of funding for the defense sector as well as support for Ukraine.
The budget for the fiscal year ending September 30 was approved by 225 votes to 201. The Senate already voted in favor of it yesterday.
President Joe Biden announced that he would sign the relevant legislation as soon as it was sent to his office.
Without congressional approval, federal agencies would be paralyzed, and many services that are not absolutely essential (parks, museums, etc.) would send their employees on vacation from midnight Friday (early Saturday morning Greek time).
Defense funding will rise to a record $858 billion, up from $740 billion last year.
Ukraine will receive $44.9 billion in aid.
