Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova twice called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi a “son of a bitch” during a press briefing on Thursday, Lenta writes.

Zakharova stated that the attitude of Western countries towards Ukraine increases the feeling of “permissiveness and impunity” in Ukraine, which, according to her, can encourage Kyiv to “extremely dangerous steps with unpredictable consequences.”

“Zelensky is their son of a bitch [în Occident] and therefore everything is permitted to him. Moreover, he is not only their son of a bitch, he is also their tool of opposition to our country,” said the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation at the briefing, which was also broadcast on the department’s YouTube channel.

However, Zakharova is not the first Russian official who used this insult against the head of Kyiv. Earlier, Dmytro Medvedev predicted that the US would stop military aid to Ukraine, using the phrase “America has always abandoned its friends and best sons of bitches.”

The Russian diplomat’s comments came a day after Zelenskyi made a historic visit to the United States, his first trip outside Ukraine since the war broke out on February 24.

Zelensky’s statements that angered Russia

During his speech before the US Congress after his visit to the White House, the President of Ukraine repeatedly emphasized Moscow’s inability to conquer the country.

Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that Ukraine first of all won a psychological victory over Moscow and that, “contrary to all calculations and gloomy scenarios, Ukraine did not fall. Ukraine is alive.”

“We defeated the Russians in the battle to conquer the consciousness of the world. We are not afraid… Ukraine won this victory and it gives us courage that inspires the whole world. America has won this victory… Europeans have won this victory. Russian tyranny has lost control over us,” said the President of Ukraine.

He assured that Russia would “never again influence our minds”, arguing that instead Russians would be free “only when they defeat the Kremlin in their minds”.

The President of Ukraine demanded to try those guilty of the war

“The world is too interconnected and interdependent for anyone to afford to stay aloof and yet feel safe while such a battle rages on. Our two peoples are allies in this battle,” continued Zelenskyi, whose speech was interrupted several times by applause.

Zelensky called on US lawmakers to strengthen sanctions against Russia and allow “terrorists to be held accountable for aggression.”

“You can increase sanctions so that Russia feels how expensive its aggression is. Indeed, it is in your power to help us bring to justice all those who unleashed this unprovoked criminal war,” he added.

Zelensky’s presence in Washington and the new package of military aid to Kyiv announced by US President Joe Biden provoked an angry reaction from the US embassy, which threatened “consequences that are difficult to predict”.
