
Four people died in an incident with a small boat in English channelas announced by the British government.
“Today at 03:05 (GMT, 05:05 Greek time), the authorities were alerted to an incident in the English Channel with a small ship in distress with migrants,” a government spokesman said.
“After a coordinated search and rescue operation by the Coast Guard, unfortunately, four people died as a result of this incident. The investigation is ongoing.”
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak expressed his regret over the deaths of four people.
“I am sure that the entire House will share my grief over the capsizing of a small boat in the English Channel early in the morning and the tragic loss of life,” Sunak said in Parliament. “Our thoughts go out to all those affected and we pay tribute to those who participated in the extensive rescue effort.”
