The Vatican launched a crowdfunding campaign on Thursday to send thermal vehicles to Ukraine to help residents survive the winter as they struggle with power shortages amid a war with Russia.
The Holy See Charity Office said it is working with Italian crowdfunding site eppela.com to raise money to buy the clothes.
The head of the office, Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, said that Italian companies have already responded to the Vatican’s call by donating thermal equipment or providing it for a fee.
Cardinal Krajewski, a Pole in Rome who has made several charity missions to Ukraine for Pope Francis this year, said he would personally take the clothes to the country in a convoy of trucks.
The Pope on Wednesday urged people to spend less on holidays and Christmas gifts this year, and to send the difference to Ukrainians to help them overcome hunger and cold this winter.
