Dianov was released from Russian captivity on September 23 after a prisoner exchange with the Ukrainian military.
“Ukrainian soldier Mykhailo Dianov is one of the lucky ones compared to some of his fellow prisoners of war,” the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine said on Twitter at the time.
“He survived Russian captivity. This is how Russia “observes” the Geneva Conventions. In this way, Russia continues the shameful legacy of Nazism,” he added in the post.
Heroes of Mariupol, released in exchange for a friend of Vladimir Putin
Azovstal fighters were released by the Russian military on September 22 in exchange for the reception of oligarch Viktor Medvedchuk, one of the richest people in Ukraine and a friend of President Vladimir Putin.
Medvedchuk, after whom the Russian president named one of his daughters, was detained by the SBU on April 12 while trying to flee the country.
He had been under house arrest since last May, a measure imposed during a treason investigation, but managed to escape from his home on February 27, four days after Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine.
Fighters defending the Azovstal plant in Mariupol surrendered to Russian forces in mid-May after running out of ammunition.
