A strategically important bridge on the outskirts of occupied Melitopol suffered an unspecified type of attack, likely sabotage by Ukrainian special forces or guerrillas behind enemy lines, and was severely damaged, according to images released by social media.
The images show the aftermath of the attack, namely that part of the bridge has collapsed and is now deformed, but there are no traces of the shells that have been systematically hitting several bridges in Kherson this fall for weeks with HIMARS launchers.
The exiled mayor of Melitopol, Ivan Fedorov, said late on Monday that there was an explosion on a bridge in the city in the southeast of the Zaporizhzhia region, which was used by the occupying forces to transport military equipment, Kyiv Independent reports.
“This is one of the strategically important bridges, like the Crimean bridge,” he added.
Moscow puppets blame “terrorists” and Ukrainian special services
Volodymyr Rogov, one of Moscow’s puppets in the Zaporizhia region, published a video of the bridge on his Telegram channel and accused Ukrainian “terrorists” of damaging it.
The Gray Zone Telegram account, linked to the Russian PMK “Wagner”, says that the bridge was destroyed by Ukrainian saboteurs: “In this way, the enemy is trying to systematically block the supply of our troops,” it says.
“How the hell are the bridges, and they are so few, in the rearguard not equipped with a video surveillance system, as they do in Russia with federal highways and other special sections of roads,” – accused the “Grey Zone”.
The first shots of the broken bridge in Melitopol. I see no damage from HIMARS shells or craters. The bridge is broken quite “directly”. Another operation behind enemy lines? There is a strong partisan movement in Melitopol. https://t.co/AvEMWgy6Ut pic.twitter.com/wGmmaR0Fyh

Video of the damaged bridge near #Melitopol a city currently occupied by the Russian army. No one knows what the Ukrainian Armed Forces did with this structure and how they managed to do it in enemy territory so far away, but the bridge is now impassable, barely passable. pic.twitter.com/YgACwzQaYt
