Russian President Vladimir Putin assured on Thursday that the bombing of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure would continue, adding that it was still revenge for the attack on the Crimean bridge on October 8, AFP, EFE and Agerpres reported.
“Now there is a lot of noise about our attacks on the energy infrastructure of a neighboring country. That’s how we do it. But who started it? Who shot down the Crimean bridge? Who blew up the power lines at the Kursk NPP (on the territory of Russia, no)? Who shut off the water in Donetsk?” Vladimir Putin said at the awarding ceremony of the Russian military.
Insisting on stopping the supply of water to the pro-Russian separatist district of Donetsk, Putin accused Ukraine of an “act of genocide.” He also reproached Western politicians for turning a blind eye to the actions of Ukrainian officials. Instead, “when we start doing something in response, the noise, noise, crackle is heard throughout the universe,” the Kremlin leader joked.
The explosion, which Moscow blamed on Ukrainian sabotage, damaged a bridge connecting Russia to the annexed Crimean peninsula and was followed by a series of Russian drone and missile strikes targeting Ukrainian energy infrastructure, causing power and water outages in the dead of winter. Traffic on the bridge was restored on Monday, when the president of Russia demonstratively drove over the bridge in a car.
