The Security Service of Ukraine stated that the searches in the homes and offices of Yevgeny Murayev, who, according to her, is “hiding from justice abroad”, and his associates are part of the criminal proceedings under the article on treason.

Murayev’s political party and the TV channel controlled by him were considered the mouthpiece of the Kremlin’s interests in Ukraine before Moscow’s February 24 invasion. The Nashi party was banned after the introduction of Russian troops into Ukraine.

He promoted views that aligned with Russian narratives about Ukraine, including that the 2014 Maidan protests in Kyiv were a Western-backed coup and the Kremlin-instigated war in eastern Ukraine that followed was an internal conflict.

Weeks before Russia’s full-scale attack on Ukraine this year, Britain’s Foreign Office said Russia was considering appointing Murayev to lead a new puppet government, something both he and Moscow deny.

The SBU stated that an independent analysis of Murayev’s public statements “testifies to the presence of signs” of treason in his actions.

According to him, the materials seized during Wednesday’s raids will be further investigated.
