Electricity supply in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, close to normal levels by Saturday, according to an adviser to the country’s energy ministry.

The director of the Energy Research Center said that the “key factor” in restoring the energy supply to Kyiv and all of Ukraine was the work of three nuclear power plants in the country.

“Now the key factor is nuclear power plants. Currently, there is a shortage of electricity generation,” Kharchenko said.

“Judging by the situation, tonight our nuclear power plants will reach their normal design capacity. This will mean that we will return to the planned holiday schedule, and people will receive electricity for at least 16-18 hours a day,” he added.

“Tomorrow there will be more or less normal power supply in Kyiv,” he stressed.

He stressed that more than half of the “major equipment” of the high-voltage power grid was destroyed as a result of the attacks.
