Spanish police will send forces to Ukraine in the coming weeks to help investigate possible war crimes, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said Monday at the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Madrid.
A preparatory mission of representatives of the Spanish police has already arrived in Kyiv to meet with representatives of the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office, the Spanish Interior Ministry said.
During the first meeting, the parties determined the terms of cooperation and determined the directions of development, the ministry said in a statement.
Spanish officers are to work with Ukrainian investigators and prosecutors to gather evidence that could be included in cases of violations of international law following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February.
Mr. Sanchez also said that a new training center for Ukrainian military personnel in the central Spanish city of Toledo will start operating at the end of November.
