Russia has destroyed all critical infrastructure in the city of Kherson, which the Ukrainian army seized from Moscow forces last week, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Monday evening, AFP reports.

“Before winter, the Russian occupiers destroyed absolutely all critical infrastructure,” Zelensky said in a daily speech after visiting the city of Kherson on Monday.

“Absolutely all important objects in the city and in the region are mined,” he added.

Russia destroyed the power plant

Ukraine’s national energy operator Ukrenergo said on Monday that Russia destroyed a key power plant in Kherson before its troops were withdrawn from the city and the right bank of the Dnieper last week.

“The power station, which supplied electricity to the entire right bank of the Kherson region and a significant part of the Mykolaiv (Mykolaiv) region, has been practically destroyed,” Ukrenergo President Volodymyr Kudrytskyi wrote on Facebook, adding that it was “the consequence of impotent fear of the occupiers before fleeing.”

Russian troops withdrew from Kherson a few days ago after eight months of occupation, which allowed the Ukrainian military to enter the city last Friday.

Two days ago, Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that Russian troops destroyed critical infrastructure in the city of Kherson before leaving, adding that local authorities are beginning to stabilize the situation in the city.

A United Nations convoy entered Kherson on Monday, marking the first delivery of international humanitarian aid to the city since it was seized by Russian forces in March.

In the press release of the UN, it is emphasized that in Kherson there are problems with water and electricity supply, there is not enough medicine in medical centers, and there is no food in shopping centers.
