Attacks on Greece, the US and the EU for their objections to the participation of a pseudo-state in the summit of heads of state and government of the Organization of Turkish States as an observer were undertaken Mevlut Cavusoglu.
“We will not receive permission from anyone else for the TRNC to become an observer member somewhere. What right does the European Union have to interfere in the Organization of Turkish States? Let the US balance Greece and Southern Cyprus. We are not going to get permission from them,” the Turkish Foreign Minister said.
“The “Turkish age” has begun, the “Turkish spring” has begun. Therefore, we can say that the entry of the TRNC into the Organization of Turkic States, in fact, another sprout in this sense has appeared and is growing. On the other hand, we also saw that the US, especially the EU, put pressure on members of the Organization of Turkish States. We even saw how they threatened. They put a lot of pressure on them. They gave a NOTA to each country. They wrote letters, pressed. But let’s not forget the following: there is a Turkic world that does not succumb to such threats, regardless of who it is, be it the EU or the US,” he added.
US and EU reaction
Recall that a few days ago, in response to a question from Greek correspondents, a representative of the US Foreign Ministry noted that this decision does not comply with the principle of territorial integrity or the UN Charter.
According to him, “The United States rejects statements calling for the recognition of the so-called ‘Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.’ We regret the decision of the Organization of Turkic States to accept an entity without international recognition as an observer. This decision is contrary to the principle of territorial integrity or the UN Charter. The United States recognizes the government of the Republic of Cyprus as the island’s sole legitimate government.”
The Representative reaffirmed the firm position of the US on Cyprus, stating that the US continues to support the Cyprus-led efforts of the United Nations to reunify the island on the basis of a bi-zone, bi-communal federation with political equality for the benefit of all Cypriots.
Turkey’s statements regarding the participation of a pseudo-state with observer status in the Organization of Turkic States was also condemned by the EU representative responsible for foreign policy issues Peter Stano.
As the representative of the EU pointed out, “This decision, which is awaiting ratification by the members of the Organization, is regrettable and contradicts the fact that several members of the Organization have expressed strong support for the principle of territorial integrity and the Charter of the United Nations.” . He also added that EE has repeatedly made it clear, including at the highest political level, that it recognizes only the Republic of Cyprus as a subject of international law in accordance with the relevant decisions of the UN Security Council.
