The Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency today adopted a new resolution calling for Russia leave your power plant Zaporozhye in Ukraine and stop their actions against nuclear facilities this country, according to diplomatic sources.

The text submitted by Canada and Finland was approved by 24 of the Council’s 35 states, two diplomats told AFP. Russia and China voted against. Seven countries were absent (Pakistan, India, South Africa, Namibia, Kenya, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia). Two were missing.

“Deep Care”

This is the third decision of the IAEA on this issue since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, calling on Russia to stop all activities at Ukrainian nuclear facilities. Similar decisions had already been made in March and September, when continued shelling in Ukraine raised fears of a nuclear accident.

In this text, the IAEA Board of Governors “expresses deep concern” about Russia’s refusal to stop attacks on Ukrainian nuclear facilities.

He calls on Russia to abandon its unfounded claims to the Zaporozhye station, immediately withdraw its troops and personnel, and stop “any actions” against Ukrainian power plants.

Of particular concern is the safety of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe. The nuclear power plant has been occupied by Russian troops since the beginning of March and is located on one of the territories annexed by Russia.
