Kyiv announced today that it is building a reinforced concrete wall and other fortifications on the border with Belarusa close ally of one’s country Kremlin where Moscow used as the basis for his invasion of Ukraine 24 February.
Kyrylo Timoshenko, an adviser to the President of Ukraine, said that a three-kilometer barbed wire wall had been erected in the Volyn region on the border with Belarus, which, according to Kyiv, remains a threat. According to him, sandbags and trenches were also placed and created.
“Our goal has not yet been achieved, but we will not disclose the details,” the official said.
He added that other work is also underway in the Rivne and Zhytomyr regions, which also border Belarus, without specifying.
He published photographs of security forces unwinding barbed wire next to a wall more than two meters high.
Ukraine’s defense minister told Reuters yesterday that the threat from Belarus still exists, but the forces there are “in a passive position.” The border between Ukraine and Belarus is over 1,000 km long.
