Two journalists from Iran International, a London-based broadcaster aimed at Iranians — have received threats to their lives from Tehran, the group that owns the channel said today.
“Iranian-British journalists working in the UK have received death threats from the Revolutionary Guards,” Volant Media said in a statement. It notes that the London police “officially informed two journalists that the threats posed an immediate, credible and significant risk to their lives and families.” According to Volant Media, “Other Iran International journalists have also been briefed on specific threats.”
Iranian international television covered the protests that rocked Iran following the death of Mahshi Amini on 16 September. A 22-year-old Kurdish woman has died three days after she was arrested by Tehran’s vice police for violating a strict dress code requiring women to wear hijabs.
About 200 people have died in the brutal crackdown on the protests, the largest in Iran in three years, according to the Oslo-based NGO Iranian Human Rights.
