OUR Germany and Iceland today convened a special meeting of its Human Rights Council UN to study the “deterioration of the human rights situation in Iran” regarding demonstrations in support of women.
The request for the meeting was made to “address the deteriorating human rights situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran, especially with regard to women and children,” according to a letter signed by the two countries’ ambassadors.
The request is supported by a total of 44 UN member states, according to a joint letter from the Permanent Representatives of Germany and Iceland to the UN in Geneva. An extraordinary meeting requires the approval of one-third of the current 47 Council members.
