
A Bulgarian border guard was shot dead on the border with Turkey, the Interior Ministry in Sofia said on Tuesday morning. It is reported that the perpetrator is in Turkey.
The incident took place on Monday evening around 20:35 when an unidentified person fired at a border police officer and a soldier patrolling the border in the Goliam Derved area on the Bulgarian-Turkish border.
The border police officer died on the spot, the soldier was not injured.
Border service vehicles arrived at the scene to carry out investigative actions and reinforcements, but the culprit could not be found. It is assumed that he is in Turkey. No illegal immigrants were found in the area.
The Turkish border authorities were informed and sent their detachments to the shooting area. A meeting with the Bulgarians is also scheduled for Tuesday.
