The city imposed a 24-hour curfew Khersoncontrolled by the Russians, declared the appointee Moscow deputy governor of the province of the same name, citing a possible attack by Ukrainian forces.
In a video message posted on Telegram, Kirill Stremusov said the curfew was necessary “in order to protect the city of Kherson” from what he called “terrorist attacks.”
Stremosov repeated earlier calls for civilians to leave the city of Kherson, saying that columns of Ukrainian vehicles were seen on the front lines and that an attack was likely.
Earlier today, Russian President Vladimir Putin said civilians must leave Kherson, a strategically important area bordering the annexed Crimean peninsula.
Ukrainian forces have recently moved closer to the city of Kherson, the only provincial capital to fall into Russian hands since the February 24 invasion, and the commander of Russian forces in Ukraine has acknowledged they are facing problems in the region.
